Malware: Malware is a cross between virus and spyware. It will infect the computer through a download, an application installed, an infected website, or a link to an infected website. Once downloaded it will install itself and take over the computer. The first thing that malware generally does is to disable the current antivirus program on your computer. When dealing with malware or any type of infection, it is always best to take care of the problem when it first occurs. The longer you wait, the worse it will get. Eventually the computer will be so infected that your only option will be a complete re-install of the operating system and your programs
Rootkit: A rootkit is a program that runs in the background with the users knowledge. Virus writers usually will use these to initially infect the user's computer. These types of programs are usually hidden from view of the user
